About us

Field Services was always one of the functions performed under the banner of Free State Transformers, formed in 1998. From humble beginnings when only small intermediate voltage systems were designed and manufactured we have since grown into a reputable manufacturer of quality and reliable transformers.
In 2004 Free State Transformers obtained certification from the South African Bureau of Standards. SANS 780 for manufacturing and SANS ISO 9001:2000 certification for quality systems.
In 2013 it was decided to separate the two functions namely Manufacturing and Field Services. And so forming a company now know as Transformer Field Services. This decision was made so that a greater focus could be given to providing clients with Quality Service and provide a professional management solution in maintaining, analyzing, sampling and repairing transformers throughout their life cycle.
Our team consists of dedicated individuals who manage each account with precision and commitment. We have experienced Field Service teams that work nationally. PSI’s (Pre Site Inspections) are done for each Transformer prior to drawing Oil Samples. This ensures accurate information is relayed back to the client. Once the samples are returned from the Lab quotation is then submitted for approval. We have the ability to purify oil on site with our mobile oil plants and also have the ability to work underground.
TFS (Transformer Field Services) uses an independent laboratory, (in the process of obtaining ISO 17025 accreditation which includes the 9001 and 14001). The lab provides the electrical industry (worldwide) with reliable analytical services for quality assessment. This is true for dielectric fluids and the early detection of incipient faults in oil-filled electrical equipment. All analysis of oil samples are performed to INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES.

Remember!

Transformers are an investment item and can only be written off for tax purposes over a number of years. Whereas a predictive maintenance cost is an expense item and can be written off in the year incurred.
